Amidst all of top girl group comebacks this summer, Mnet is doing things a little differently with the announcement of an upcoming project girl group!
The project is titled 'PRODUCE 101' and it'll be a girl group unit made up of female trainees from various agencies! 101 trainees will compete and the top 10 or so will become a group!
The project will take about a year. Each member who gets chosen by netizen votes and experts will release a debut single, and then later promote together as a group under Mnet. However these members can also debut under their own agencies as part of other girl groups.
A Mnet representative told Star News, "We're aiming for an entertainment agency unit girl group project by the second half of this year."
The representative continued, "This project is called 'PRODUCE 101'. Right now we are only in the beginning of the planning stage, so it's hard to say what the content and schedule will be. The plan is to target the trainees in all companies nationwide. There will be a total of 10 members in the unit girl group. They will form one team for activities but the timing has yet to be decided on."
Which agencies will be participating? Nothing has been decide on yet as the producers are still in the midst of planning things out. "Because this requires the cooperation of various agencies, we're still trying to reach out to the different agencies to scout them," another rep revealed.
