These days, people are going crazy over corgis and pugs.
(Who, us?)
Well move over pups, cuz there's a new top dog in town...
The Jindo dog!!!
Originally bred on Jindo Island as hunting and guard dogs, these dogs are now considered a "National Treasure" of South Korea.
But what even makes these pooches so special? Well...
1) They're loyal until the very end.
And I mean the very end. In 2002, the story of a Jindo dog named Baekgu spread throughout South Korea. At the death of his owner, the dog grew mournful and morose, refusing to leave his owner's body for three days and even following his owner to the funeral. He continued to refuse food or water in his grief and love to his former owner.
2) They're super athletic.
In fact, these dogs marched in the '1988 Summer Olympics' opening ceremony in Seoul!
3) And did I mention that they're completely fearless?
Here's a Jindo dog with his lioness bestie.
4) their puppies are absolutely irresistible.
Like this one napping with its mama.
And this independent pup who don't need no mom. (Brb sobbing at the cuteness.)
5) They even tried out to be police dogs.
Ironically, the LAPD found that Jindo dogs like Mingook here were unsuited for the job because they tried too hard to please their masters.
6) Celebrities love them too!
Big Bang's Daesung got to verse a Jindo dog in hurdle and hoop jumping.
(Who's the winner here?)
Even Dr. Phil adopted a Jindo!
(Dr. Phil, his wife, and their adopted Jindo dog, Maggie.)
7) They're also amazing helpers around the house.
8) Not to mention the world's best babysitters.
(I don't even have that much patience with children.)
9) But they're still big furry babies themselves.
(Start at 1:00 to see these dogs in action.)
10) Jindo dogs will always be your best friends.
