ELSIE - I'M GOOD
Track List:
1. I'm Good (Feat. K.Will)
2. Rain Tears
3. Love Effect
4. I'm Good (Solo ver.)
Eunjung of T-ARA and its subunit T-ARA N-4 has dropped her new solo album. For her title track, "I'm Good," she teamed up with singer-songwriter K.Will. Going by the stage name ELSIE (chosen for it's positive attributes), this is her first EP.
The album starts off with the pre-release track "I'm Good." It starts off with the chorus:
"I'm good alone (x2)
I have no feelings,
I'm not even mad
I don't have any tears
I don't need you (x2)
Don't even talk about past love
I don't think you really know me"
And uses that as the hook. It's an alright track, though a little slow for my taste. ELSIE's vocals are pristine, and both of them sound mournful and passionate. The track itself doesn't do much for me, sounding a bit disjointed and overwrought at times.
"Rain Tears" ends up as more of a trot tune than a pop one. The guitars are played well, and ELSIE ends up doing a fair job on the vocals. It's sweetly sung, but it could have had more oomph. As it is, it seems to go through the motions, and we don't get to feel the pain reflected in the lyrics.
"Love Effect" is more my speed. Here, she compares herself to a vaccine. It's a bit repetitive, but effervescent, and even includes a rap. She's not amazing at it, but not bad at all, either. Kind of like the track.
ELSIE has a pretty voice, but I've always thought so. Being a fan of T-ARA (cue the boos here), I want to see their members do well, in dramas and solo activities as well as together. This disc is a little lopsided, though. I enjoyed the solo version of "I'm Good" a lot more than the duet with K.Will. I'm hoping ELSIE can come into her own as a songwriter as well as a singer. I had higher hopes for this album, but it did little for me. Here's hoping for a stronger comeback.
