According to an exclusive by THE FACT, multiple MMA reps told them, "Song Ga Yeon has been receiving treatment periodically at a psychiatrist's office in Seoul since August. It is unsure how many more times she will need to receive treatment, and she is going through a difficult time. At a young age, it took a toll on her mentally. Although she's used to the malicious comments, they have started going overboard. Her mental state is unstable so she hasn't been able to continue training."
The MMA fighter has been receiving a good amount of hate even before her official MMA debut as people questioned why she was appearing on shows like 'Roommate' when she said she only has desire to focus on her sport. Because she was emphasized as a 'beautiful fighter', many also wondered if she was just using the sport as a side thing to generate interest for her celebrity debut. Song Ga Yeon had stated that she was going to prove the haters wrong at her first official match, and she won that with ease. However, after wining against her opponent, some have been pointing out that the match was rigged from the start, stating it seems she was given was a weak opponent just to make her debut look better. She was also the subject of sexual jokes and rude comments, and one hater went as far as to post a death threat saying he felt the urge to kill her and wanted to buy a chain saw.
In response to this, MMA organization ROAD FC (Road Fighting Championship) filed a complaint against the particular netizen behind the death threat on the 20th. The organization stated, "We have filed a complaint to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office against Mr. Y, who threatened to kill Song Ga Yeon with a chain saw... Although Song Ga Yeon has endured personal attacks and criticisms up until now, because the recent chain-saw threat is intolerable, we held a meeting and have decided to press charges."
The ROAD FC lawyer Choi Young Ki also stated, "Up until now, Song Ga Yeon has received a great amount of pain from thoughtless netizens' sexually explicit jokes and verbal abuse... We have decided to take legal action. We will not tolerate another happening like this again."
