40. Sunny Hill "Goodbye to Romance"
Album: Antique Romance
Label: LOEN Entertainment
Release Date: December 14, 2012
While Sunny Hill is best known for their musical social commentary via songs like "The Grasshopper Song" and "Midnight Circus", the group spent 2013 exploring the romantic side of life, starting with a ballad all about remembering a high school crush. Janghyun's recent return from the army and Sunny Hill's return to technically being a co-ed group again may mean it's back to the edgier content, but this little jaunt on the softer side of life was nice while it lasted.
39. Huh Gak and Yoo Seung Woo "Monodrama"
Album: Little Giant
Label: A-Cube Entertainment
Release Date: February 5th, 2013
Emotional ballads are K-Pop mainstays, and in recent years, so are audition shows. So what happens when you take two former 'Superstar K' contestants on one sad ballad about lost love? You have a hit on your hands, that's what.
38. INFINITE "Man in Love"
Album: New Challenge
Label: Woollim Entertainment
Release Date: March 21st, 2013
INFINITE turned over a lot of new ground this year, with the debut of their subunit INFINITE-H and their collaborations with Amoeba Culture on 'Fly High', and the group's first non-Sweetune single in a long time, "Destiny". While the new ventures were great, it was the tried-and-true formula of INFINITE+Sweetune for "Man in Love" that captured everyone's attention and reminded Inspirits just why they became fans in the first place.
37. Kim Bo Kyung "Don't Think You're Alone"
Album: School 2013 OST Part 3
Label: Sony Music
Release Date: December 24th, 2012
[Audio unavailable]
Every so often, a drama unexpectedly sweeps the nation- this year, that drama was 'School 2013'. Unsurprisingly, Kim Bo Kyung's beautiful OST, "Don't Think You're Alone", was just as popular as the drama itself.
36. T.O.P "DOOM DADA"
Album: DOOM DADA
Label: YG Entertainment
Release Date: November 15th, 2013
If there was an award for understatement of the year, T.O.P's "Long time, no see" would easily take first place. It's been three and a half long years of false starts and rumors while waiting on T.O.P's solo return, only to have the wait unexpectedly interrupted by the out-of-nowhere, surrealist single, "DOOM DADA". Despite a short notice and no promotions, "DOOM DADA" shot to the top of the charts and very nearly won a few music shows.
35. SISTAR19 "Gone, Not Around Any Longer"
Album: Gone, Not Around Any Longer
Label: Starship Entertainment
Release Date: January 31st, 2013
After SISTAR's massive 2012 takeover with "Alone" and "Loving U", the group took a break to put their wildly successful subunit, SISTAR19, back in the spotlight. Hyorin's 5-high-notes and the table choreography went on to become some of the most iconic sounds and images of 2013.
34. Baek Ji Young "I Hate It"
Album: I Hate It
Label: WS Entertainment
Release Date: January 3rd, 2013
Queen of ballads Baek Ji Young hasn't been incredibly active this year- it's understandable, though, considering she was getting married, pregnant, and suffered a tragic miscarriage. Before she took a break, she brought us the beautiful ballad, "I Hate It", featuring world-famous pianist Yiruma.
33. B2ST "Will You Be Alright?"
Album: Will You Be Alright?
Label: Cube Entertainment
Release Date: May 29th, 2013
While B2ST promoted their darker dance song, "Shadow", it was their pre-release track, "Will You Be Alright?" that took the K-Pop world by storm. Despite no MV and only getting performed on their goodbye stages, "Will You Be Alright?" was a huge- if unexpected- hit.
32. 15& "Somebody"
Album: Somebody
Label: JYP Entertainment
Release Date: April 7th, 2013
15&'s official debut with "I Dream" last year was panned for being too boring for these two vocal powerhouses, and left many wondering if JYP Entertainment knew what to do with the girls. All doubts were cleared up this year with "Somebody", a song that had everybody up and dancing- even Seo In Guk, who promised to go out on stage and do the body wave dance with the duo if they won on a music show! While "Somebody" never did get that win, it was still one of this year's best-loved songs.
31. Lee Hi "Rose
Album: First Love
Label: YG Entertainment
Release Date: March 28th, 2013
It's impossible to imagine the amount of pressure Lee Hi faced going into her second year as an idol. How exactly do you come back from being the first rookie act to win on a debut music show stage? Talk about a tough act to follow! "Rose" let us know that Lee Hi is in this game for the long haul- and her B-side, "It's Over", wasn't too shabby, either.
Check back next week on Wednesday, December 18 for songs twenty-one through thirty!
