On October 21, Mnet's representative hip-hop audition program 'Show Me The Money' made its official return with its 11th season.
Season 11 once again attracted a record number of auditionees at over 30,000. This season's producers/judges are LIL BOI and GroovyRoom, Jay Park and Slom, JUSTHIS and R.Tee, and The Quiett and Leellamarz.
Now, arguably the contestant creating the biggest buzz of season 11 is Lee Young Ji, a widely-known musician and celebrity of Gen Z, as well as the winner of Mnet's 'School Rapper 3'.
On this day, Lee Young Ji revealed the reason why she had decided to audition for 'Show Me The Money 11'. "I've heard so many people ask me, 'Are you here to audition?'. When I tell them that I am, they're unbelievably shocked, and say, 'Why?'. I think people have different reasons for audition for this, whether it's to become a rap star, to make money, and so on. I am also just another person with another reason. Just because I'm not lacking in terms of my material wealth, that doesn't mean that I am not hungry. When it comes to music, I am always starving and am always looking for something to fill up this big, empty space."
The star then continued, "I am still in the process of discovering who I am. As each year passes, there are tasks to be done and people have expectations that become increasingly harder to meet. So I am here to ask, 'Who am I? What kind of music do I want to make? What kind of message do I want to convey?'.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
While waiting for her turn during the first round audition, Lee Young Ji attempted to fight down her nerves after numerous others before her got eliminated.
Finally, Lee Young Ji's turn came around and she demonstrated a powerful rap verse in front of judge Jay Park. The musician not only received applause from all of those present on the set, but she effectively drew all of the attention to herself with her unrivaled tone and volume, her aura, etc.
Jay Park, also impressed by Lee Young Ji's smooth and concise rap, handed her the 'Show Me The Money 11' necklace. In particular, Jay Park observed during an interview afterward, "If her rap wasn't good, of course I would have eliminated her. But as expected, she did very well. Hearing her, I thought, 'Finally, your time has come. Your era has come. Show us what you got'."
And she killed it without getting flustered in front of her crush!
