Actor Kim Soo Hyun has taken legal action against individuals responsible for spreading malicious rumors and defamatory content.
On April 15th KST, Kim’s agency Gold Medalist released an official statement announcing that they had filed a complaint with law enforcement the previous day. The statement reads, “Recently, there has been a flood of malicious posts, comments, and false information about our artist Kim Soo Hyun being indiscriminately uploaded and spread online.”
The agency went on to say, “Groundless speculation and unverified claims are being repeatedly posted, misleading the public and severely damaging our artist’s reputation. Based on active fan reports and our internal monitoring, we submitted a criminal complaint on April 14th for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act and for insult under the Criminal Act.”
Gold Medalist also highlighted the increasing severity of “cyber wrecker” behavior—referring to anonymous content creators who produce gossip-driven videos or shorts designed to go viral: “These creators exploit anonymity to produce fake news and instigate cyberbullying. We will be taking firm action against such acts through collaboration with international legal representatives, including against content on platforms like YouTube and X (formerly Twitter).”
The agency added that they plan to file additional complaints as necessary, stating, “We will continue to take strong legal action to protect our artist’s rights from clear criminal activity.”
Kim Soo Hyun has been embroiled in rumors and controversy related to the late actress Kim Sae Ron, leading him to temporarily pause his public activities.
