TV personality Hyunyoung has spoken out following criticism that she was reselling complimentary luxury brand gifts. She clarified that she was not directly selling any products but simply helping to connect buyers to an overseas vendor and only received a small referral fee.

On April 22, a representative from the overseas shopping company that worked with Hyunyoung explained the situation in a phone interview with OSEN. The representative said their company acts as a purchasing agent, helping customers in Korea buy items from overseas that are not easily accessible. He added that Hyunyoung was not involved in sales but introduced the product to others and received a referral fee for doing so.

He also explained that the product in question, Dior’s Spring Kit for 2025, has not yet been released in Korea. The kits were sourced from a trusted partner in Singapore and then introduced to people like Hyunyoung who share them with their networks. Customers made purchases using their own customs clearance numbers, meaning the products were imported legally under their names.

The representative emphasized that the entire process followed legal procedures. He said Hyunyoung only helped facilitate the connection and was not involved in any product sales. She did not earn profit from the items themselves but was compensated for her role in introducing them.

The controversy began when Hyunyoung shared a video on social media featuring the Dior kit. In the video, she explained that Korean department stores usually give only an empty pouch to customers who spend over 170,000 KRW (about $120). She offered a full kit for 85,000 KRW (about $60), describing it as a hard-to-find and highly popular item.

She explained that the kit included four miniatures that are typically offered to VIP customers who spend over 480,000 KRW (about $340). She described the total value of the full kit as around 650,000 KRW (about $456) and emphasized that the pouch was a genuine Dior item with a QR code. She also shared styling tips, suggesting it could be used as a bag for spring and summer travel.

Despite her explanation, some online users raised concerns that she was selling free promotional gifts at a marked-up price, questioning whether it was legal. Hyunyoung denied the accusations, but the discussion continued due to her public profile.

In a follow-up interview, Hyunyoung stated that she confirmed with the vendor that the products had entered Korea through official customs procedures. She explained that customers used their own customs clearance numbers and that the items were legally imported. She believes the misunderstanding comes from the assumption that she was reselling luxury freebies when in fact, she was simply connecting people to the vendor.
