Jung Yunho, better known as TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho, is set to make his Japanese film debut in the upcoming remake of the Korean hit ‘The Outlaws’, according to multiple industry insiders.

The Japanese version, tentatively titled ‘The Outlaws’ and directed by Eiji Uchida, is currently in pre-production. Yunho has been cast in a major role and will act alongside prominent Japanese actors.

This marks Yunho’s first role in a Japanese film and his first major appearance on the big screen, aside from a cameo in the 2014 Korean film ‘Ode to My Father’. His participation in the action thriller genre raises anticipation for how he will perform in his first full-length film role.

Having captivated audiences at Tokyo Dome as part of TVXQ, Yunho is now expected to channel that popularity into box office success. Following his upcoming Disney+ series ‘Fine’, his role in ‘The Outlaws’ further signals his active expansion as an actor.

The Japanese remake is based on the 2017 Korean action film ‘The Outlaws’, which opened a record-breaking franchise that has drawn over 40 million viewers to date. The Japanese production team secured the remake rights several years ago but shelved the project temporarily. With improved investment conditions, production is now moving forward again.

The original franchise, led by Ma Dong Suk, was not only a massive hit in Korea but also gained popularity in Japan. Japanese actors like Munetaka Aoki and Jun Kunimura previously appeared in the third Korean installment, highlighting the franchise’s cross-border appeal.

In addition to Yunho, the Japanese remake is reportedly in talks with other Korean actors to join the cast, raising interest in how they will contribute to this localized adaptation.

Directed by Eiji Uchida—known for works such as ‘Love for Sale’ (2017), ‘Detective Mariko in Kabukicho’ (2022), ‘Midnight Swan’ (2003), ‘Silent Love’ (2025), and the Netflix series ‘The Naked Director’—the remake will feature Japanese actors Koshi Mizukami, Sota Fukushi, and Sho Aoyagi.

Principal photography is slated to begin in June.
