On March 14, HYBE/SOURCE MUSIC's girl group LE SSERAFIM made their anticipated return with their 5th mini-album, ‘HOT,’ the group’s final installment in their trilogy, 'EASY, CRAZY, HOT.' Ahead of the album’s official release, the girl group held a media showcase.
On their comeback, the members shared their feelings and thoughts with the press members. Yunjin said, “‘HOT’ is the final piece to our ‘EASY, CRAZY, HOT’ trilogy. Last year, we had a lot of amazing experiences. We poured everything into this album.”
“This marks our first album of this year. Last year was truly a year filled with gratitude,” Chaewon added.
Kazuha shared, “Not only do we have a melodic and lyrical single, that is ‘HOT,’ but we also have an assortment of tracks. We will showcase a lot of new facets of us. Not just us, but also our staff members put their hearts and souls into this album.”
“‘CRAZY’ is still shooting up its way on the global charts — something we are grateful for. To really give back to the fans for their love and support, we poured everything into this. We’re here for a hot, hip, and cool performance,” said Sakura. Eunchae added that this marks a new chapter for her as ‘HOT’ is the first project she worked on since turning 20 in Korean age. “We tried to go into a new genre and chapter to showcase new sides of ourselves.”
The quintet’s latest project consists of five tracks: “Born Fire,” “HOT,” “Come Over,” “Ash,” and “So Cynical (Badum).” As Chaewon described, the title song “HOT” is a pop sound infused with elements of rock and disco. “It’s very intense and strong but it’s also a melodic and lyrical song, which is quite a turn for our past lead singles.”
Kazuha revealed that it was challenging for them to “strike that sweet spot,” making sure that the song is not a downer and overly bubbly at the same time.
On the message they want to convey through ‘HOT,’ Sakura shared, “The song conveys the message that we’ll give everything to what we love, no matter the consequences. This is our first single to center love.”
A reporter asked about what kind of love they’re trying to deliver with the song. To which Yunjin answered: “If you listen to the lyrics of ‘HOT,’ you can tell that it's not just about romantic love. I think love can come in a lot of forms. It could be love for your hobby, for your work, or for yourself who is still not perfect. You can love yourself even if you're imperfect or it could be someone who loves you when they know you’re not perfect. Love is something very general.”
When asked about their first impressions on “HOT,” Kazuha told the press members: “For me, when I first heard it, I could imagine someone driving with a cool breeze on their face.”
“I definitely felt a sense of duality. It seems calm but also very dynamic. It’s cool yet hot, almost like a flame burning yet slowly fading,” Yunjin shared.
On their growth and personal stories instilled in the album, Eunchae said, “Beginning from our very first album, we always told people to be fearless and go on whatever you believe in. This album is the final installment of the trilogy, and there are things we learned while working on ‘EASY’ and ‘CRAZY.’ I think “HOT’ is the epitome and culmination of the experience we've had so far. In ‘EASY,’ we conveyed what we were anxious about, then in ‘CRAZY,’ even if you’re anxious, you just want to go crazy. In ‘HOT,’ you don't know what the outcome is going to be, but we just want to go all in. Just love whatever you love. We want to talk about how we've grown as people and as artists through this trilogy.”
