Actress Gong Seung Yeon shared her thoughts on her younger sister, TWICE member Jungyeon, and her blunt honesty, often referred to as "fact violence."

During an interview for the play 'Secret of Flowers', held in Gangnam, Seoul, on March 4th, Gong Seung Yeon shared her thoughts on taking the stage for the first time and reflected on her theatrical debut.

Set in the small town of Villaferrosa in northwestern Italy, 'Secret of Flowers' follows four housewives who take on elaborate disguises in a desperate attempt to collect insurance money after their husbands mysteriously disappear overnight.

When asked about the play’s satirical elements, Gong Seung Yeon explained, "As actors, we didn’t consciously approach it as satire—we simply tried to live our characters’ lives as truthfully as possible. We never really discussed it in that context. To us, this is just everyday life. We don’t see anything unusual about it because we’ve always lived this way."

Reflecting on onstage mishaps, she shared, "It wasn’t a major mistake, but as soon as I walked in, I bumped into a pillar and completely blanked on my lines because I forgot to move the props." She continued, "Once, the rug tore, and my shoe heel broke off—but I didn’t even notice and kept acting. After the lights went out, another actor handed me the heel, and that’s when I realized. I also heard that the audience gets distracted if the sofa cushions are out of place, so whenever one falls, I’m thinking, ‘When can I pick that up?’ But I try to anticipate these things and prepare in advance."

When asked if she felt pressured performing complex scenes, such as the endoscopy scene, she admitted, "At first, I was really worried about how to play that moment, but once I did it, it was fun. I even started thinking, ‘Should I try it this way today?’ ‘Should I actually pull my pants down?’"—a remark that had everyone laughing.

She also spoke about the friendly rivalry between herself and Ahn So Hee and Lee Yeon Hee, who also play Monica in the production. Gong Seung Yeon revealed, "We compliment each other, imitate each other, and talk a lot. We even share clothes, which has made us even closer." She added, "I feel bad that we haven’t been able to see each other as much now that performances have started. So Hee is incredible—sometimes her talent really shines. It feels like a healthy competition between us."

When asked to compare the different portrayals of Monica by Ahn So Hee and Lee Yeon Hee, she said, "So Hee’s Monica is so adorable and charming. I don’t know how she expresses that kind of cuteness so effortlessly. I even used some of her expressions as a reference. Meanwhile, Yeon Hee brings warmth to her character. And, first of all, she’s just so pretty. Even when she’s standing still, she’s stunning, and I feel like she knows how to use that beauty to her advantage." She then joked, "I don’t know if there was anything about me that she wanted to copy," making the reporters laugh.

Her younger sister, TWICE’s Jungyeon, also attended the play and didn’t hold back her "fact violence." Gong Seung Yeon recalled, "Jungyeon said she really enjoyed it, but then she told me, ‘Unnie, your voice sounds different.’ She said, ‘Senior Jung Young Joo came out, and then you came out, but your voice is different. Musical actors sound different.’" Laughing, she shared this candid moment of sisterly banter.

Finally, Gong Seung Yeon humbly reflected on her growth as an actress, saying, "I know that I’m not someone with exceptional acting skills. I just hope that when I stand on stage with my fellow actors, people don’t only focus on me."

Meanwhile, 'Secret of Flowers' will run at Link Art Center's Bugs Hall until May 11th.
