The stars of 'Squid Game Season 2', including director Hwang Dong Hyuk and actor Lee Jung Jae, are heading to Los Angeles today (January 3rd) to attend the '82nd Golden Globe Awards'.
The prestigious Golden Globe ceremony, set to take place on January 5th (USA time), honors global cinema and American TV dramas each year.
This year, 'Squid Game Season 2' faces competition in the television category from Disney+’ 'Shōgun', Netflix’s 'The Diplomat', Apple TV+’s 'Slow Horses', Prime Video’s 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith', and Peacock’s 'The Day of the Jackal.'
'Squid Game Season 1' was nominated in three categories at the '79th Golden Globe Awards' in 2022: Best Television Drama, Best Actor in a TV Drama, and Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama. The show won Best Supporting Actor (O Yeong Su).
Since its global release on December 26th, 2024, 'Squid Game 2' has generated immense buzz. According to FlixPatrol, the show topped Netflix charts in 93 countries within just two days of its release, maintaining its number-one spot for five consecutive days.
With 'Squid Game Season 2' continuing its momentum, all eyes are on whether the show will win at the 'Golden Globe Awards'. However, some experts predict that the series might not secure an award this time around, as it is considered a bridge to the third season, rather than a completed series on its own.
Meanwhile, 'Squid Game Season 3' is expected to premiere later this year on Netflix, although the exact release date remains undisclosed.
