Following the back to back success of his dramas 'The Tale of Lady Ok' (JTBC) and 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' (Netflix), actor Choo Young Woo quickly caught the attention of Korean netizens.
However, some netizens who decided to dig deeper into the actor found his following list Instagram somewhat "problematic".
Netizens found that Choo Young Woo was following rapper Jung Sang Soo on Instagram, known for controversial scandals such as driving under the influence (DUI), assault while intoxicated, altercation with police officers, and sexual harassment of specific figures in his rap lyrics. The rapper is also known to support the far-right civic activism group New Men's Solidarity, a pro-Yoon Seok Yeol and anti-feminist group.
Some also found it a "turn off" that Choo Young Woo was following gaming streamer KUBIN, claiming that the streamer was known for provocative content.
Allegedly, shortly after his following list created a buzz on various online communities, Choo Young Woo began "cleaning out" his follows.
Netizens reacted with comments like,
"I thought there was finally a rising male actor to pay attention to but..."
"This makes him look cheap."
"Just another Korean man..."
"Wow and now that he's starting to get famous, he starts cleaning out his following list kekekekeke."
"He got away with a lot when he wasn't famous lol."
"Just face it, all Korean men are rotten."
"Yup, another Korean man with horrendous taste and horrendous views."
"I don't feel like watching his dramas anymore."
"Well, I was starting to take an interest in him but what a turn off."
"Why would an actor follow an Afreeca BJ? How brainless lol."
"If you're a man who wants to be loved by female fans, you need to be more thoughtful about what the public can see..."
