On February 1 KST, BTS member RM delivered a heartfelt Lunar New Year greeting to his fans via Weverse.
RM wrote,
"Hello, my dearly beloved people.
Did you enjoy the Lunar New Year holidays?
Did you eat tteokguk?
I can't believe I'm already 32-years old in Korean age, when it feels like I haven't done anything. I caught myself stubbornly arguing that I was still 30-years old in international age and thought, wow, I'm officially an ahjusshi now. (Footnote.. There's also my weak-man mindset that 30 nowadays should be considered equivalent to people 4~5 years younger from back in the old days.)
I wish you good fortune in the New Year.
I forgot to send my greetings when the year turned,
but I, Kim Namjoon, have finally been promoted to sergeant (...)
Sergeant Kim ! !
I believe that the other members all received early promotions as well, so now all 4 of us are sergeants.
I'm proud, but at the same time, they say that real army life starts now haha;
I'm still happy that my next promotion will be to the status of civilian.
No, I'm actually happy that I'm a sergeant..
I remember the kind words that my instructors and superiors said to me when I first enlisted, 'Will 2025 ever come?' and '2025 will never come even if you beat me to death'. It turns out, time does tick even in here. It feels like it's already been at least 2 years but..
So nowadays, I'm relaying the same kind words to my juniors. 'Hey friend_ Let me break it to you, 2026...'
Yup.
It's childish. I know.
Act my age? Nope.
2024 was an overwhelming year in so many ways.
Regardless of whether it was good or bad, it was a year to be remembered.
How about you?
When I see the two members who completed their duties before me and who are getting back on their feet, I'm both envious and relieved. Being a civilian is the best.
There's so much I want to tell you once I return to being Kim Namjoon, a civilian. Words I can't quite say now.. I'll believe that one day, I'll be able to relay these words to you in my own way. When I can't fall asleep and my mind is wandering in the night, I think,
I'll be out of here.. On June 10. I will laugh out loud on that day. So loud !
It's already February. There's only about 4 months left now.
Once I get to March, it'll be less than 100 days..
As always, I'm exercising, playing my saxophone, listening to music and watching movies on the weekends and studying, preparing for my return. I hope that you are healthy as well.
I shaved my head again to commemorate my promotion to sergeant.
Here's a pic. Oh wait, that one was taken before I shaved my head. Oh well! I just wanted to tell you that I'm doing fine, so don't worry.
I love you."
Meanwhile, RM enlisted as a member of the ROK Army's military band in December of 2023. His discharged is scheduled for June 10.
