NewJeans explains why they pre-paid for food and drinks at the impeachment rally for President Yoon Suk Yeol
On December 25th KST, all five members of NewJeans appeared on CBS Radio’s 'Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show' to explain their decision to pre-pay for food and drinks during a rally calling for President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment. The members shared, “We wanted to help those going through difficult times. It made us feel proud and happy knowing we were able to provide some support.”
Minji revealed that they donated food for 560 people. She added, “Bunnies (our fandom) gathered with fans from other groups, took pictures, and shared the food we had pre-paid for. Hearing that made me feel really proud.”
Danielle reflected, “The weather was so cold, and we thought having warm food would not only warm their bodies but also encourage them to share conversations and create warm memories together. That’s why we really wanted to do this.” Hyein added, “It was wonderful to do something for so many people, ensuring everyone could enjoy the food together. I felt so good about it.”
Haerin mentioned, “We made sure non-Bunnies could also enjoy the food we prepared. Seeing how much joy it brought to the Bunnies made me so happy.”
During the show, the name “NewJeans” was notably avoided, with both the members and anchor Kim Hyun Jung referring to the group only by the members’ individual names.
This appearance was confirmed to have been arranged independently by the members without consultation with their agency, ADOR. In response, ADOR stated, “The appearance on this program was not discussed with the company, and the artists decided and carried it out on their own. We were not informed about the appearance beforehand,” indicating potential conflict ahead.
Last month, NewJeans held a press conference on November 28th to announce their departure from ADOR, stating, “As of November 29th, we have terminated our exclusive contracts with ADOR and will continue our activities independently, free from HYBE and ADOR.”
In response, ADOR claimed, “The exclusive contract is valid until July 31, 2029,” and filed a lawsuit on December 3rd with the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the contract.
