The beloved story of 'Miss Granny' is set to return to audiences, this time as a KBS 2TV drama series. On December 12, a press conference for the new Wednesday-Thursday drama 'Miss Granny' was held at Stanford Hotel in Sangam, Seoul. Attending the event were director Park Yong Soon and cast members Kim Hye Suk ,Jung Ji So, Jinyoung,vSeo Young Hee, and In Gyo Jin.
The drama, based on the 2014 box office hit of the same name, follows Oh Mal Soon (played by Kim Hye Suk), a grandmother who magically transforms into her 20-year-old self, Oh Doo Ri (played by Jeong Ji So). Combining romance, music, and a journey of self-discovery, the show promises to offer a fresh take on a familiar favorite.
Director Park Yong Soon shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I’ve always wanted to create a heartfelt family drama. As a fan of the original film, I thought this was the perfect story to tell in today’s context. The atmosphere on set was incredibly joyful, and I hope that energy reaches viewers.”
Park acknowledged the challenges of remaking a well-loved original but emphasized their focus on adapting the story for 2024. “We embraced the strengths of the original while crafting a narrative that resonates with today’s audience,” he explained. “The story now highlights the relationships between three generations of women—grandmother, daughter, and granddaughter. We also updated the plot to include a K-pop girl group storyline, making it more relevant to contemporary viewers.”
Kim Hye Suk portrays the elder Oh Mal Soon, while Jeong Ji So takes on the role of her younger self, Oh Doo Ri. Jinyoung plays Daniel Han, a former idol group leader turned entertainment producer, and Seo Young Hee stars as Oh Mal Soon’s daughter, Ban Ji Sook. In Gyo Jin rounds out the cast as Ji Sook’s husband, Choi Min Seok.
Jeong Ji So expressed her admiration for Shim Eun Kyung, who played Oh Doo Ri in the original film. “Shim Eun Kyung is an actor I deeply respect. Instead of trying to compare myself to her, I focused on staying true to our version of the story,” she said. Kim Hye Suk praised Jeong’s performance, saying, “Seeing Jeong Ji So as my younger self brought me joy and satisfaction.”
Jinyoung, who reprises his role from the original film, reflected on returning to 'Miss Granny' a decade later. “When I was approached for the remake, I felt both honored and nostalgic,” he shared. “While the film and drama share the same foundation, the series allows for deeper storytelling and new twists.”
Director Park echoed this sentiment, adding, “For those who have seen the movie and those who haven’t, we’ve worked hard to create something fresh yet familiar. Whether the ending aligns with the original or diverges, we hope audiences enjoy the journey.”
As the cast and crew gear up for the December 18 premiere, Park Yong Soon expressed his hopes for the series’ success. “We’ve poured our hearts into this project, and I believe the humor, emotion, and energy will resonate with viewers.”
With its blend of nostalgia and modern updates, 'Miss Granny' is poised to bring warmth and laughter to screens this holiday season. The series will air every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 PM KST.
