Gong Yoo opens up about his dating style during reunion with Chae Jung An
On October 17th KST, the YouTube channel ‘Chae Jung An TV’ released a video titled “It’s Been a While, Yoo Joo Noona… The Unfinished Story of Han Kyul and Yoo Joo, Reuniting After 17 Years | EP.2 Gong Yoo.” Gong Yoo, who starred in the 2007 MBC drama ‘Coffee Prince’ (referred to as ‘Coffee Prince’), appeared as a guest in the video.
Gong Yoo and Chae Jung An reminisced about their first meeting during the filming of ‘Coffee Prince.’ Gong Yoo said, “I first saw Chae Jung An at the script reading. I had known her as a sexy performer on stage, but our first scene together was at a playground, and we were both awkward. The director told us to hug to break the ice, but that just made things more awkward.” Chae Jung An humorously added, “Gong Yoo hugged me with his hips pushed back, which made it even more awkward.”
Gong Yoo continued, “Chae Jung An was really beautiful. She had a first-love vibe, which made it easy to act alongside her. In real life, she was different from her Yoo Joo character; she wasn’t as fantastical, but that made me like her more as a person. I thought she was a really cool noona, and we became friends.”
Chae Jung An recalled, “The ‘Coffee Prince’ team had a lot of group dinners. Even though we filmed long hours every day, Gong Yoo was always at the gatherings. I admired how he stayed until the end to support the team, even in tough situations.” Gong Yoo clarified, “Everyone was working on a crazy schedule. I barely had time to sleep, but I went to the dinners because I liked the people, not just for team spirit. I think that’s why those dramas end up doing well.”
Chae Jung An described Gong Yoo as someone who “sincerely gives his heart to the person he loves.” To this, Gong Yoo jokingly replied, “How would you know? We never dated.” Chae Jung An explained, “We didn’t date, but I saw you just before you went to the military, a time when your youthful passion coexisted with inner turmoil.” She added, “Gong Yoo isn’t a fiery person but someone who maintains a sense of calm.”
Gong Yoo shared his actual dating style, saying, “I’m more of a ‘tsundere’ type. I may seem considerate, but I’m actually indifferent and a bit dry. I’m not proactive, so I get along better with someone who leads me.”
Chae Jung An also mentioned that 17 years ago, Gong Yoo described his ideal relationship as “being able to do your own thing in the same space,” to which Gong Yoo agreed, saying his views haven’t changed much since then.
