Webtoon artist Yoo Young (real name Lee Yoo Young) has passed away at the age of 41.
On the 24th, Kakao Entertainment announced, "Yoo Young, who had been publishing 'Yeolmu and Altari' on Kakao Webtoon and Kakao Page for the past five years since 2019, passed away on September 23, 2024."
They added, "We are deeply saddened to share this sad news with the readers who loved 'Yeolmu and Altari.' For more details, please check the artist's social media. We extend our heartfelt condolences."
The artist’s social media also shared the news, saying, "Yoo Young, the creator of 'Yeolmu and Altari,' passed away in her sleep due to cardiac arrest. We sincerely thank all the readers who have loved 'Yeolmu and Altari.' She is currently resting at Konyang University Hospital in Daejeon. The main characters of 'Yeolmu and Altari,' Yul and Kwon, are with their father, protecting their mother."
'Yeolmu and Altari' is a webtoon that started in 2019 on Daum Webtoon (now Kakao Webtoon), and it gained popularity by depicting the story of raising twin children, one with disabilities and one without. A total of 244 episodes were released, with the latest one released on the 12th. Around 10 days ago, Yoo Young announced she would be taking a break to recharge.
The funeral is being held in Room 5 of Konyang University Hospital's funeral hall in Daejeon, and the burial will take place at noon on the 25th.
