Singer Hwasa revealed that she earns tens of millions in Korean won (approximately $75,000 to $750,000 USD) in royalties each month.
On September 24th(KST), the YouTube channel Studio Suje's 'Breakfast With Me' featured an episode titled "The original queen of gopchang mukbang, Hwasa, returns after 6 years and reveals her go-to restaurant."
In the episode, Jang Sung Kyu surprised Hwasa by visiting her home and waking her up. He commented, "I looked it up, and your place seems expensive. It’s worth about 5 billion won. Is it yours?"
Hwasa responded, "I’ve always lived in rented places. People around me tell me to buy a building. It might sound immature, but the space I’m in right now is just too important."
She shared that she decided on her current home at first sight, adding, "I think first impressions are important, even when meeting people. I feel like I can sense when someone’s not being dishonest."
Jang Sung Kyu then asked if she had ever met celebrities who later experienced unfortunate events after getting a bad feeling about them, to which Hwasa responded, "Yes, if I think 'this person will face some trouble eventually,' it often turns out to be true."
Jang mentioned her hit songs 'Twit' and 'Maria,' asking if she had a similar gut feeling when creating them. Hwasa replied, "While making them, I just felt like I wanted to release them quickly."
When asked if she receives substantial royalties from those songs, Hwasa admitted, "Yes, but I don’t check often. I try not to focus too much on the money to avoid getting distracted by it." She went on to reveal that her highest monthly royalties have reached "around tens of millions of won."
During the episode, Jang prepared Hwasa’s breakfast of gopchang and sundubu-jjigae, which she had requested. Hwasa explained, "Gopchang is soul food for me. Just the sight of it makes my eyes light up."
