Singer HyunA is rumored to be facing backlash following her announcement of marriage to Yong Jun-hyung.
HyunA performed as an invited singer at the 'Summer Night Race' held at Everland in Yongin on the 13th.
During the event, HyunA performed a series of hit songs including her new track ‘Q&A,’ along with ‘I’m Not Cool,’ ‘Lip & Hip,’ ‘Red,’ and ‘Bubble Pop,’ embellishing the event.
After the performance, videos of her stage spread across various online communities.
In the video, HyunA is seen passionately singing while wearing a short skirt and a tight-fitting top with a collar.
However, what drew attention was the caption in the video, “THE SILENCE BE GOING WILD.”
During her performance of ‘I’m Not Cool,’ HyunA attempted to engage the audience by handing the microphone over for a sing-along, but the audience remained unresponsive.
This lack of response continued even during the performance of her hit song ‘Bubble Pop.’ Despite HyunA’s efforts to prompt a sing-along, the audience maintained their silence.
Viewers of the video noted the difference from the usual enthusiastic reactions at HyunA’s performances. Comments included, “It’s the first time seeing ‘Bubble Pop’ met with silence,” “Even HyunA can’t escape this,” and “Reaping what she sowed.”
A Brazilian media outlet also reported, “HyunA has sunk her career with her own hands,” attributing the audience's cold response to her announcement of marriage to Yong Jun-hyung.
However, some argue that the event was not conducive to high audience engagement.
One netizen commented, “The attendees were mostly families, which explains the lack of response,” and “Photos of the audience show they were very far from the stage.”
Despite these explanations, public sentiment towards HyunA remains cold. HyunA, who went public with her relationship with singer Yong Jun-hyung in January and announced their plans to marry, faced widespread concern. This is partly due to Yong Jun-hyung's involvement in the 2019 Burning Sun scandal, where he was accused of receiving illegal recordings.
In response, Yong Jun-hyung took to Instagram to explain that he did receive illegal recordings but felt wronged, posting his defense after five years. However, this did not seem sufficient to sway public opinion.
Has this affected his partner, HyunA?
HyunA had planned a North American tour in August, including stops in New York, Chicago, and LA, but has since canceled the tour entirely. While it is known that overseas tours are sometimes canceled if ticket sales do not meet expectations, the unfavorable public opinion has led to speculations that HyunA might be experiencing the backlash from her marriage announcement.
