If you're an old school K-drama fan, you've probably heard of, or seen, the hit 2015, 2-episode mini drama 'Splash Splash Love' starring Kim Seul Gi and Doojoon!
Originally aired in December of 2015 as an MBC drama special, 'Splash Splash Love' tells the story of a high school girl who falls into a puddle on a rainy day, right before her College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). She travels back in time to the Joseon period, where she becomes a tutor for the dynasty's young king.
Well, almost 9-years after the K-drama special first aired, 'Splash Splash Love' has been remade as a Chinese drama!
What's more is that the 2-episode mini drama has been recreated as a 24-episode series, starrring Chen Jing Ke and Li Zi Xuan. Borrowing from the original plot of 'Splash Splash Love', the Chinese drama 'My Divine Emissary' takes place in a fictional dynasty, when a strange girl from the distant future makes waves in the palace and draws the attention of the young emperor.
Intrigued by the remake of 'Splash Splash Love' after all these years, K-netizens commented,
"The female lead's outfit in the beginning is an exact replica kekekeke."
"The female lead has Kim Seul Gi vibes too."
"How did they extend a 2-episode series into 24-episodes?"
"'Splash Splash Love' is a fan favorite! I wonder if they got it right..."
"I loved 'Splash Splash Love'. I wonder how they altered the story."
"But the major plot development in 'Splash Splash Love' was that the king was actually King Sejong kekekeke. Does China have an equivalent to King Sejong?"
"I remember I really enjoyed this mini drama back in the day. I'm intrigued by the Chinese remake!"
"I can't imagine how they turned a 2-episode series into 24-episodes."
"The male lead doesn't have the same vibes as Doojoon TT."
