Actor Son Suk Goo has recently established his own production company, marking a distinctive path from the trend of male actors setting up solo agencies.
An advertising industry insider revealed on February 5th that Son chose a production company over a solo agency, having registered his business earlier this year and preparing to dive into production activities. The company, named Stature Inc., is co-founded with the former financial director of his previous agency, SBD Entertainment, and is based in Samsung-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, with its business registration completed on January 2nd.
Son's move to start a production company is fueled by his interest in film and drama content. He has been meeting with various writers and directors since last year, preparing for several projects. An industry insider noted, "Son Suk Goo is one of the actors who has a keen interest not only in acting but also in content," suggesting that Son is also contemplating production aspects.
Following his departure from SBD Entertainment last year, Son became a highly anticipated free agent in the entertainment industry, with speculation rife about whether he would establish his own agency. Instead, Son has opted to work under an agent concept, with a manager from his former agency handling his management activities in an agent-style arrangement.
A management insider commented, "Having lived abroad for a long time, Son has contemplated management structures and decided that 'Son Suk Goo' as a brand is now well-established. Instead of seeking out projects, many are now coming to him. Choosing to work with a trusted manager under an agent contract seems to be a strategic move to continue his active acting career without the pressures of running a solo agency."
2024 looks to be a busy year for Son Suk Goo, starting with the release of the Netflix original 'A Killer Paradox' on March 9th, where he stars alongside Choi Woo-shik and Lee Hee-joon in a story about an ordinary man who accidentally becomes a murderer and the detective relentlessly pursuing him.
he's never one to follow the regular path anyway.
