The new tvN weekend drama 'Resident Playbook' is off to a strong start, gaining global popularity since its premiere last week. The series has climbed Netflix's global rankings, as well as video viewership charts in Korea, garnering much buzz.
The first two episodes introduced viewers to five OB-GYN residents at Yulje Medical Center in Jongno: first-years Oh Yi Young (played by Go Youn Jung), Pyo Nam Kyung (portrayed by Shin Si Ah), Eom Jae Il (played by Kang Yoo Seok), Kim Sa Bi (Han Ye Ji), and fourth-year resident Koo Do Won (Jung Joon Won). Their often clumsy yet earnest attempts to adjust to hospital life have resonated with viewers, offering both heartfelt laughs and relatable moments reminiscent of everyone’s early career struggles.

As of April 16, 2025, Resident Playbook entered the Netflix Global Top 10 for non-English TV shows (April 7–13), marking a successful debut. According to streaming ranking platform FlixPatrol, the show ranked No. 1 in several Asian countries, including South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, and broke into the Top 10 in 44 countries overall.
The drama also placed high in the FUNdex rankings by Good Data Corporation (April 15) and the daily trend ranking on OTT search platform KinoLights (April 14), proving its widespread buzz. Related content has topped YouTube’s trending video chart, and the total number of views across YouTube and social media has surpassed 65 million views (as of April 16).

Anticipation is high for episodes 3 and 4, which will delve deeper into the growth of the first-year residents. With its relatable storytelling, expanding universe from the Hospital Playlist series, and the breakout performances of its rookie cast, Resident Playbook is poised to set new records.
'Resident Playbook' airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m. KST on tvN.
