On December 21, the Seoul Metropolitan Police announced that they had notified Hwang Ui Jo to attend the investigation by December 27, 2023. A police official stated, "Hwang Ui Jo has not responded yet. If he intentionally delays the investigation, we will summon him through mandatory measures."

Hwang Ui Jo is under police investigation for allegedly filming women during sexual intercourse. Due to the ongoing legal issue regarding this allegation, Hwang Ui Jo has lost the right to wear the Taeguk Mark (the Korean national football team emblem) until a clear conclusion from the investigation agency is reached. This decision was reached by a discussion body formed by the Korean Football Association on the 28th of last month.

Public outrage erupted when he was brought in as a substitute during the away game in China on the 21st, despite the knowledge that he had been questioned by the police as a suspect following the 2026 North and Central America World Cup qualifier home game against Singapore in Seoul on the 16th of the previous month.

Regardless of his performance in his team, if he does not receive a non-indictment from the judicial authorities, he will not be able to participate in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup, which opens in Qatar on January 12 next year.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Hwang Ui Jo's sister-in-law, 'A,' threatened Hwang Ui Jo and the female victim. 

On December 8, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office apprehended and charged 'A' under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act for distributing explicit material and making threats. The indictment outlines that 'A' sent the victim a captured photo showing the victim having a naked video call with Hwang Ui Jo.

'A' allegedly sent the photos and the threatening message, "Is this you? Hwang Ui Jo has a lot of women. I'm going to post these photos soon." She also sent messages to Hwang Ui Jo saying, "I have many of your videos. You have a lot of women. What will happen if these videos are leaked?" and "These are a few sample photos. Look forward to the leak."
