Will notable artists like Jungkook, NewJeans, IVE, and Stray Kids perform at the '2023 MAMA AWARDS'?
On November 8, the '2023 MAMA AWARDS MEDIA DAY' was held at SJ Kunsthalle in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Present at this event included the host, Jeon So Mi, Park Chan Wook, the head of Mnet's business department, and Lee Seon Hyung, who heads the Convention Content Planning Team. Creating excitement for the mega event, the 'MAMA AWARDS,' they announced that the grand ceremony would be held on November 28 and 29.
This year marks an exciting milestone as it brings forth the first-ever domestic awards ceremony in Tokyo Dome, Japan. This notable shift aims to amplify the reach of K-POP, connecting global fans with an atmosphere of music and celebration on an even larger scale.
Numerous celebrated artists such as Yoshiki from X Japan, ATEEZ, INI, JO1, NiziU, RIIZE, TVXQ, Xikers, ZEROBASEONE, &TEAM, BOYNEXTDOOR, EL7Z UP, ENHYPEN, (G)I-DLE, Kep1er, LE SSERAFIM, Seventeen, 'Street Woman Fighter 2', TOMORROW X TOGETHER, Dynamic Duo, 'Road to MAMA' winners Just B, Lee Young Ji, 'Street Woman Fighter' participant Monika, and TREASURE have confirmed their participation in 'MAMA 2023.'
Addressing inquiries regarding the artist selection criteria, the Business Department Head Park commented, "As an awards ceremony, our priority lies in inviting artists whose annual activities have been the most prominent." However, this drew mild disappointment from some fans after realizing that artists such as Jungkook from BTS, NewJeans, IVE, Stray Kids, and others who have excelled in music and album genres were not in the lineup.
Responding to questions regarding the possibility of their appearances, Park Chan Wook mentioned, "There are ongoing discussions concerning additional artists. As soon as that decision is finalized, we will make an official announcement. However, it's a complex matter to discuss at this moment."
Meanwhile, this year's '2023 MAMA AWARDS' has Samsung Galaxy as its title sponsor, and it is planned to be broadcast worldwide through channels such as Mnet and YouTube channel Mnet K-POP, as well as Mnet TV, KCON official, and M2.
The Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) began as the Mnet Music Video Festival in 1999 and have since evolved into one of the most prominent music award ceremonies in Asia. Initially established by the music channel Mnet to celebrate achievements in the music video industry, the event expanded its scope to recognize excellence across the broader music spectrum. It was rebranded as the MAMA in 2009, signifying its commitment to embrace the diversity of the Asian music scene. Over the years, MAMA has grown in stature and reach. Celebrated for its high-profile performances and star-studded guest lists, MAMA has become a coveted platform for artists to showcase their talents and for fans to celebrate the best in Asian music.
So in other words they are saying the awards are rigged and the (cough cough) judges have made their decisions- hmmmm
