The investigation into actor Lee Sun Gyun (age 48) and singer G-Dragon (age 35, real name Kwon Ji Yong) suspected of drug use faced criticism for being excessive as it encountered difficulties.
In response, a police official explained, "It is challenging to conduct an investigation when the information is disclosed at the pre-investigation stage before securing clear evidence."
On November 13, a police official stated in a press conference, "Drug crime investigations rely on comprehensive assessments, including the results of the National Forensic Service's analysis, statements from relevant individuals, forensic evidence, etc. It is somewhat premature to categorically label it as an excessive investigation just because verbal statements have been made without clear evidence so far."
The official acknowledged, "It is true that the investigation was initiated based on statements without clear evidence," but emphasized the difficulty caused by the information being disclosed before the official investigation. The police official stated, "We will continue the investigation in accordance with legal procedures."
Lee Sun Gyun submitted a preliminary urine test on October 28. The results came back negative, as corroborated by a detailed examination conducted by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation. Since the issuance of these results, no more summons for Lee Sun Gyun have been reported.
Similarly, G-Dragon also tested negative in a preliminary urine test executed by the police on November 6. The investigators have since collected G-Dragon's fingernail clippings for further examination by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation.
Regarding the possibility of proving the allegations based solely on statements, the police commented, "It may not be easy to sustain the charges with just statements; it depends on the examination." They did not provide information on whether there are multiple statements corroborating the drug use allegations, stating that it is a "significant matter."

Did they froth themselves into a frenzy, over the thought of contact with a huge celebrity?
They should hunt down whoever is leaking information to the media, although I don't think they will do that, they use the media and public outrage to their advantage, without a care for a persons innocence and how much damage it does to a persons reputation and their wellbeing.
