Earlier this week, ZEROBASEONE Member Kim Gyu Vin garnered attention on an online community for his use of certain words and phrases which many claimed were 'Ilbe' terms.
'Ilbe', or 'Daily Best Archives', is a popular, strongly conservative online forum used by predominantly conservative-identifying male users.
Below, netizens pointed out the allegedly 'Ilbe' terms Kim Gyu Vin was seen using while responding to fans' comments on a fan community.
1. ㅗㅜㅑ (Oh-woo-yah) = supposedly used by 'Ilbe' users when reacting to female bodies or sexual scenes.
2. 없당께 (eop-dang-kkae) = a Jeolla-dialect phrase, supposedly used by 'Ilbe' users to mock Jeolla-dialect users.
3. 못참제 (mot-cham-jae) = also a dialect-style phrasing of the popular term "못참지".
4. 아몰랑 (ah-mol-llang) = an aegyo-filled way of saying "molla" (I don't know), supposedly used by 'Ilbe' users to mock overly emotional females.
Once word began spreading online that the ZEROBASEONE member may be an 'Ilbe' user, Kim Gyu Vin himself decided to post an apology, explaining that he had not known about the hidden meanings behind the words and phrases he used.
Kim Gyu Vin wrote,
"Hello, this is ZEROBASEONE's Kim Gyu Vin.
Recently, while communicating with fans on a new platform, it came to my attention that I used words and phrases that I did not know the proper meanings and origins of, and I am now reflecting on my mistakes.
I would like to sincerely apologize to those who may have felt discomfort due to my immaturity. I will educate myself and put in more effort to ensure that this does not happen again.
Once again, I apologize to the fans who are supporting me and to all who were concerned by this incident."
