EVERGLOW (Sihyeon, E:U, Mia, Onda, Aisha, Yiren) has officially made their awaited return!

On August 18 KST, the same day as the release of their fourth single album 'All My Girls,' the Yuehua Entertainment girl group held a press showcase at Seoul’s YES24 Live Hall, discussing a range of topics with local media including how it feels to be back after a nearly two-year hiatus.

"It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to greet you all. We’ve all worked really hard preparing for this, and as much as we’ve been looking forward to it, we feel a mix of nervous and excited emotions," leader Sihyeon admitted at the beginning of the event. "Thank you so much to all of the fans who’ve been waiting for us."

According to the group, the new album 'All My Girls' is dedicated to young girls struggling to not lose who they are in a world with a defined social framework and also contains EVERGLOW’s own aspirations.

"Since we had been absent [from the music scene] for a year and eight months, the members put our tears into making sure this album was perfect," Aisha confided. "I think we felt a lot of pressure not to let down our fans." However, the members assured attending reporters that they used the hiatus well, saying it was a period where they could "prepare more intensely."

The discussion that followed moved to the album’s lead single "SLAY," an impressive track fusing EDM, hip-hop, and pop elements including a powerful drum sound and addictively melodic hook. Similar to how the previous single "Pirate" imagined the group as ‘space pirates,’ "SLAY" leans into bolder and more confident energy, particularly engaging international fans with the trendy attitude of the song’s title.

Through previous hits like "DUN DUN" and "Adios," EVERGLOW gained a reputation of being one of K-pop’s leading ‘performance queen’ groups, which makes it no surprise the music video for "SLAY" is also focused around eye-catching dance moves. During the showcase, the members introduced the single’s point choreography – referred to as the ‘zombie dance’ – where they bring their arms out in front of them, moving them in a zombie-like fashion throughout the song’s chorus.

Later in the event, the topic moved to Yiren’s break from activities to return to her home country of China, one factor that delayed EVERGLOW’s ability to return as a full group. As previously reported, the member had to return to China last year for reasons relating to her academic status and spent time with family she was unable to see during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the hiatus was initially only meant to run from mid-January to the end of February, Yiren eventually returned in November.

"I did a lot of thinking when I was in China. While I was happy to spend time with my family, I was very sad at the thought of being apart from the other members," Yiren reflected. "When I got back to Korea, I had a lot of conversations with the rest of the group. [The experience] became motivation for me to work even harder preparing for this album, and I hope it’s able to receive a lot of love."

Meanwhile, ‘All My Girls’ contains three songs in total, the aforementioned lead single “SLAY” and B-side tracks “Oh Ma Ma God” and “Make Me Feel.” The full album was officially released on August 18 at 6 PM KST.
