Musician/producer MC Mong has issued an official statement via his legal representative, Kohwoo Law Firm, in order to directly refute the various speculations and malicious rumors surrounding him.
Earlier on July 18 KST, an exclusive media outlet reported that it had obtained a recording of a private conversation MC Mong had with acquaintances some time in January of 2022. This media outlet claimed that the recording contained "proof" of MC Mong attempting to "recruit" EXO members to the agency Big Planet Made.
Prior to this, MC Mong was embroiled in rumors that he had played a role in the legal dispute which broke out between EXO members Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen and SM Entertainment earlier this year. At the time, MC Mong firmly denied any involvement in the issue, and SM Entertainment also confirmed that suspicions of "third party involvement" in Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen's case was a result of misunderstandings.
Now, MC Mong's legal representative has revealed a shocking fact, that MC Mong has been the target of persistent threats by a former affiliate, 'Ahn'.
First, Kohwoo Law Firm stated, "On July 18, 2023, various media outlets reported on an alleged voice recording of MC Mong, commenting on EXO members Kai and Baekhyun during a conversation with acquaintances. This conversation was recorded illegally in January of 2022, approximately a year and 6 months ago, by an individual 'Ahn' without permission, then maliciously edited as to be used for threatening purposes. 'Ahn', who used this recording to threaten MC Mong, was in fact forwarded to prosecution for charges of threatening on July 17, 2023. Despite the fact that he is under investigation for threatening charges, 'Ahn' continued to spread this maliciously edited recording without consent."
According to the law firm, 'Ahn' and MC Mong previously had a disagreement over matters related to another artist at Big Planet Made prior to MC Mong's departure from the agency. Afterward, 'Ahn' used various means to threaten both MC Mong and CEO Park Jang Geun of Big Planet Made for several months, forcing MC Mong to press criminal charges in May of 2023. When faced with a legal investigation, 'Ahn' allegedly turned to the media to further threaten MC Mong by spreading rumors about his involvement in EXO-CBX's legal dispute.
The law firm added on, "The recording in question consists of a 2-hour conversation between several individuals, but it has been maliciously edited with only MC Mong's voice audible. Throughout the full conversation, the names of EXO members Baekhyun and Kai took up less than 1 minute. Furthermore, this conversation which took place in January of 2022, a year and 6 months ago, had nothing whatsoever to do with the legal dispute between EXO-CBX and SM Entertainment which occurred in June of 2023."
MC Mong's side then once again confirmed that he had met with EXO members some time around January of 2022 privately in order to give the members advice during their contract renewal processes. According to MC Mong, "The EXO members were uninterested in the countless offers that they had received from domestic and overseas agencies; rather, they wished to fulfill their dreams as 'producers' with self-independence. Hearing the members' inner thoughts, MC Mong offered them intermittent advice as a sunbae artist in the industry, avoiding any topics which might lead to misunderstandings."
Finally, Kohwoo Law Firm stressed, "Despite the fact that MC Mong was briefly suspected of having involvement in the EXO-CBX incident in June of 2023, neither MC Mong nor Big Planet Made made any attempts to 'recruit' the EXO members. Furthermore, MC Mong is both an artist managed under Million Market, a subsidiary of SM Entertainment, as well as its largest shareholder. Thus, MC Mong and SM Entertainment are currently maintaining close relations as affiliates in the music industry."
MC Mong's side intends on pursuing further legal action against 'Ahn' for persisting with various threats even while under investigation.
More malicious editing, ugh, it's far too easy these days to spread untruths about people if there's been an argument, I suppose we're going to see more and more of it now it's possible to create deep fake vids as well. It's going to be the case soon that none of the material on the net is going to be believable, 'just in case'.
