A 'My Teenage Boy' contestant is gaining attention after a recent episode.
On the episode that aired on April 6 KST, contestant Kim Gyu Rae, who only recently began his trainee life under JYP Entertainment, surprised the other trainees by expressing that he does not know Girls' Generation and thought that the group's leader Taeyeon was simply a solo artist.
A scene of a trainee telling the others, "Gyu Rae doesn't know Girls' Generation. He didn't know that Taeyeon is from Girls' Generation. He thought she's a solo artist," quickly made its rounds on the internet, with one online community suggesting that the confusion might be due to Kim Gyu Rae being born in 2009, roughly two years after the girl group debuted.
Comments left on the post were mixed, as some netizens expressed their shock that an idol trainee would not know this while others agreed that Kim Gyu Rae is simply from a different generation. Such comments included, "Even my nephew doesn't know who they are," "If he was born in 2009, isn't he just a baby?," "Girls' Generation debuted two years before he was born, so he might not know them... How is he supposed to know all the members? It's a generational difference," "If a kid who says he wants to be an idol trainee doesn't know this...," and "These days young people don't know Girls' Generation, Wonder Girls, or KARA."
Meanwhile, 'My Teenage Boy' is a reality survival show that premiered on MBC on March 30. The show is a male adaptation of the girl group survival show 'My Teenage Girl,' which eventually formed the rookie girl group CLASS:y.
