In the k-pop world, we know it is extremely common for groups to debut at a young age. We can say that the average age is usually between 18-22. Some superstars display their talent much before this age, and they take on the challenge of becoming a k-pop star as early as middle school!
Today, we will be taking a look at some k-pop stars that made their debut on the stage in their middle school days. It is also important to note that the Korean school system works a little differently. For a crash course, elementary school is from Grades 1-6, Middle School is through grades 7-9 (though Korea just calls it Middle School Grade 1, 2 & 3), and high school is from grades 10-12 (called high school grade 1-3).
Let's take a look at some of these stars and their debut times -- you may be surprised to see your favorite k-pop star make this list!
IVE Won Young - 8th Grade (Middle School Second Year)
When Wonyoung first debuted with IZ'ONE, she was only an 8th grader! She's got everything from talent, beauty, and personality.
NCT Ji Sung - 8th Grade (Middle School Second Year)
Babyface Ji Sung made his first appearance in the k-pop world in only 8th grade! He finally made his way as an adult, but it's crazy to believe it's been that long since he debuted!
f(x) Krystal - 9th Grade (Middle School Third Year)
SM Entertainment's princess Krystal debuted as a ninth-grader with f(x)! She is still a beaut today, but she was drop-dead gorgeous when she first debuted as well.
SHINee Taemin - 9th Grade (Middle School Third Year)
Taemin turned 30 this year in South Korea, but he was only in ninth grade when he was shouting "Replay Replay~" back in 2008 when he debuted!
Jeon Somi - 9th Grade (Middle School Third Year)
Former JYP trainee and now superstar Somi debuted as a ninth-grader when she debuted with IOI!
A PINK Hayoung - 9th Grade (Middle School Third Year)
Hayoung is already a twelve-year veteran in the k-pop world, but she was only in the ninth grade when she made her debut with A PINK!

Niki showcased his incredible skills through the audition program "I-LAND," and when he made his official debut, he was still only a ninth grader! What crazy talent!

It's crazy to see how such young people are insanely talented. While we could not capture every idol star that debuted as a middle schooler, we hope you were able to discover something new today regarding these stars! What are your thoughts? Do you know any idol stars that also debuted as middle schoolers? Let us know in the comments below!
Imho, nobody should be allowed to debut in kpop as a middle-schooler anymore. The netizen climate is as toxic as it has ever been and the pressure is crazy nowadays with having to stay in line and be perfect in everything (or else you get criticized to death). Too young to handle this as a middle schooler!
This is a recipe for depression and mental health issues
