Congratulations on Hanbin's debut with TEMPEST! To celebrate, a fan builds two small elementary schools in highland Vietnam. It is also a gift to Hanbin, who used to participate in the I-Land survival show, with the intention of wishing him a successful beginning with TEMPEST.
TEMPEST debuted at 6:00 KST on March 2 with the album It's ME It's WE. The group has 7 members including leader LEW (Lew Euiwoong - former Produce 101 contestant), Hyeongseop (Ahn Hyeongseop - former Produce 101 contestant), Hwarang (Song Jaewon - former Under Nineteen contestant), Hanbin (Ngo Ngoc Hung) - former I-Land contestant), Taerae, Hyuk & Eunchan.
To celebrate Hanbin's official debut, his fan and her family decided to donate nearly half a billion dong ($19,806) to build 2 small elementary schools in his hometown Yen Bai. The first school site is Kang Ky school - Suoi Giang preschool (Suoi Giang commune, Van Chan district, Yen Bai province). The school has 58 students between the ages of 3 and 5. 25 of those students previously had no classroom, so the school had to borrow a wooden house in the village for them to study.
This Hanbin fan donated 160 million dong ($7042) to build classrooms for this group of 25 children just so they can have a place to study. She also gave 55 articles of warm clothing, 2 water filters and 55 gift bags, filled with a package of milk, cookies and candy, to the students on the Inauguration Day of the Kang Ky school site. (Total value of 10 million VND, about $440.)
The second school site is a Kindergarten in Hang Tho village (Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province). This elementary school has about 35 students, who had to study in two makeshift classrooms, surrounded by wooden boxes, corrugated iron roofs, and ground that had been built for many years. The same Hanbin fan donated 240 million dong ($10,523) to build the two classrooms and an additional 40 million dong ($1760) to build an on-site playground. Because the school is located in a dangerous highland area, whenever there is rain, the roads become muddy; causing a delay in the delivery of materials. Although construction of the school started on September 25, 2021, up until now, the school is still under construction.
Behind this generous project, is a 41-year-old fan of Hanbin and her supportive husband and children. As a mother of three children, she wanted to build a school targeting remote areas because many children here do not have adequate education. As a result, they often get married when they are 13-14 years old. She hopes that highland children will have the opportunity to go to school and gain the knowledge needed to develop ambitions for a better life, to finally escape poverty; an opportunity she wishes she had. She too, aspired to go to school but due to difficult family circumstances, it wasn’t possible. She had to learn on her own and taught herself to write and read. She hopes that other children will not have to go through her same situation.
This Hanbin fan also wants to support her idol by contributing to the general development of society. She strongly supports the younger generation who have their own idol, regardless of whether that idol is in the field of entertainment, sports, or science...
Just having an idol will set a good example for anyone to live better and do better. If there are idols and fandoms who are interested in social activities, other young people will notice and get involved; maybe even feel like volunteering. She believes that the fandom culture can set off positive energy and will give people a different view of the world of fans. When fandoms unite to do charity work, it creates the power to make the world a better place. Hanbin also has the desire to help people in difficult circumstances, so she wants to join hands with him to fulfill that wish of the idol.
