On October 21, Kakao Entertainment's music platform Melon announced that they will be holding the 'Melon Music Awards 2021' ('MMA 2021') online on December 4, at 6PM KST.

The MMAs, launched online back in 2005, selects the top artists of the year from data consisting of votes and rankings on the Melon music charts. Since 2009, the awards ceremony began to be held both offline and online every year until 2019. In 2020, all award ceremonies were held online in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, artists and fans will meet online, as they share the stories of the past year and dream of the next. Fans will be able to easily tune in on 'MMA 2021' through the Melon app, KakaoTV, and on the YouTube channel '1theK'.
