Back on March 5, FNC Entertainment notified fans via AOA's official Japanese website that the group's upcoming 'AOA 1st Fan Meeting in Japan - Angels Home Party' has been cancelled.
The label stated, "We planned to host the 'AOA 1st Fan Meeting in Japan - Angels Home Party' on May 2, 2019. However, due to the artists' personal circumstances, the event has been cancelled."
After news of the cancellation, netizens wondered if it was a preliminary sign of AOA's potential disbandment. According to insiders, AOA's contracts with FNC Entertainment are due to expire at the end of May this year. Many see the cancellation of AOA's 1st Japanese fan meeting in early May as a sign that the members have decided not to renew with FNC.
Comments included, "They definitely didn't give off the vibe that they were going to renew... the members always talked about being envious of Seolhyun...", "I've been a fan since 'Confused', and the realization that it's coming up in two months is making me feel really empty... Because I get the feeling that they're not going to renew...", "It's always so sad to see girl groups lasting for such short periods of time compared to boy groups", "AOA had really good songs but the team's atmosphere was never all that tight", "They were one of the top sexy girl groups of their time...", and more.
What are your thoughts on the fan meeting cancellation?
If it's true, it's for the best. Their run stopped a long time ago.
They had huge potential and, in the beginning, they released some of my favourite K-Pop songs ever.
Unfortunately, FNC has not been able to properly handle them. They got greedy with the (deserved) rise of Seolhyun's popularity, but that caused them to lose the strategic view of the group as a whole.
Mismanagement, lacklustre songs, some reckless and absolutely unnecessary PS, led to a rapid wilting of AOA. The exit of Choa has been basically the final sentence of what was becoming a sad story.
Whether they decide to stay or part ways, I wish them the best.
