Earlier this month, HEYNE released a single titled "Insomnia" - her first ever self-composed music release. Some netizens, after seeing the MV for "Insomnia", accused HEYNE of filming with a 'lolita' concept.
HEYNE said, "I have a lot I want to say about the MV. First, I am a normal 27-year old woman. I want to try various images, and if you talk bad about me, I get hurt. I was shocked when people saw my MV as problematic, calling it 'Lolita'. I saw a lot of responses like that. Honestly, I'm short and thin so I've never worn revealing clothing during my promotions. I've never even worn shorts or tight-fitted clothing. Plus, I've always released songs which were bright and bouncy, fitting for my voice. I've always had a child-like image, very hidden, which may be why when I wore revealing clothes for the first time, the public took my MV as that way. But I had no intentions [of a 'lolita' concept]."
A representative from HEYNE's label added on, "We wanted HEYNE to look pretty in the MV. The MV didn't even have a storyline. We just went with visual concepts."
HEYNE continued, "It was my first time wearing shorts and tight-fitted clothes. I also used toys, which I like normally, as props. I thought of it as my own sensibility... I honestly still don't really get which part is 'Lolita'. I'm a 27-year old woman. I wanted to try different images, like sexy. It upsets me. After seeing that response, I haven't been able to look through people's comments comfortably."
Finally, she addressed, "It's absolutely not noise marketing. It was never meant to be that way. I am speaking up on this matter for the first time right now. If it were for noise marketing, the topic would have come up already... In some ways, I'm fearful of this unexpected response. Some of it is my fault. It's my fault; I should be a woman who is taller with a curvier body."
