YMC Entertainment has denied rumors saying agency employees asked Wanna One fans to prepare packed meals.
As many in the Kpop fandom know, it's commonplace for fans to prepare packed meals for their favorite artists and the artists' staff to show their support. However, it's unheard of for fans to be prompted into doing so by artists or their agency's staff.
On December 12, a Wanna One fan cafe wrote a message that gave rise to the alleged issue under the title "Meal Support Urgent Fund-Raising." The post stated , "As we've already had ongoing for the concerts on the 17th and 23rd, we'll also start raising urgent funds for lunch and support for additional staff lunches as requested for the concert on the 24th." It also added that along with the 11 Wanna One members' lunches over 2 days, fans are requested to raise funds for 60 servings for the Seoul concert on the 17th and 40 servings for the Busan concert on the 23rd.
Feeling they've been pressured into funding meals for the group and staff, some fans expressed their anger about the post. However, others are stating it was just a misunderstanding. One fan cafe member stated, "The fan cafe union notified the agency of meal preparation, and they asked if they could prepare meals for staff as well. One out of the 11 fan cafes misunderstood and posted an inaccurate message."
A rep from YMC Entertainment also stated, "It was a misunderstanding that arose after negotiations with one fan cafe. They edited the problematic post immediately."
