On October 4, Seo In Guk spoke up after 4 months of silence regarding his military exemption. The singer-actor explained, "I wanted to confidently enlist as an active-duty soldier, and do everything I could in my duty to defend the nation." However, he's incapable to do so due to his health condition.

His lengthy message is responded with some negativity from the public. Netizens believe Seo In Guk still could've enlisted if he had such strong desires and also since his condition is not severe. 

Comments stated, "....stop lying... If you want to enlist then all you had to do was not submit the hospital papers... The military physical exams are not that nice enough to go over the hospital records... I mean, if you're really ill... then you could still go as ill...", "He's probably screaming 'hell yeah' inside", "He tried so hard not to enlist", "What a lengthy bs", "Enlist after you finish treatment", "And he was in the jungle couple months ago with that 'poor condition'", "Bullsh*t. My husband wasn't exempt under the same condition."

Seo In Guk's exemption also sheds light on the leniency of celebrity enlistment. Recently, actor Yoo Ah In was under fire for a similar situation where he was ultimately exempt due to poor health. 

Overall, Seo In Guk not serving in the military is expected to have a negative effect on his image from this point on.
