There has been a massive buzz in various online communities and social media platforms following Kim Soo Hyun's recent emergency press conference.
On March 31, Kim Soo Hyun stood before the press to address the ongoing controversy and allegations. On this day, the actor firmly denied that he had dated the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor.
Kim Soo Hyun said, "It seems too many people are suffering because of me. I’m truly sorry. We dated for about a year in 2020, four years before Queen of Tears aired. At the time, I denied the relationship,” adding, “It’s only natural that people criticize me for that, and I understand if they don’t believe what I’m saying about our relationship."
To support his claims that he had not dated Kim Sae Ron in 2016, Kim Soo Hyun presented a "scientific analysis" of the Kakaotalk conversations between himself and Kim Sae Ron from 2016 and 2018. The scientific analysis stated, "In other words, if it is determined that the message authors from 2016 and 2018 are not the same person, there is an 8% chance that this conclusion is incorrect. Therefore, at a 92% confidence level, it can be interpreted that the messages were not written by the same person."

However, Korean netizens are questioning the basis of this "Scientific analysis" that concluded that the messages sent to Kim Sae Ron in 2016 are different from the person who sent messages in 2018.
Korean netizens criticized the "scientific analysis" for lacking substantial evidence to prove that the messages were sent by different individuals. Many also noted that a person's tone of speech naturally evolves over the years. One netizen specifically pointed out that people often sound different at the beginning of a relationship compared to the end.
They commented:
"KakaoTalk forensic expert. lol."
"Everyone, try to use the same speech two years later too."
"When I analyzed the conversation, they sounded like the same people. Source: trust me."
"They do sound a bit different. In 2016, they had just started dating, so there was this fresh excitement, like they were figuring out how to win each other over. In 2018, though, it’s like, 'We’ve done everything, so now it’s the ‘caught fish’ phase?' That’s the vibe. I’d interpret it as love cooling down, but calling them completely different people? LOL"
"Wow! Very scientific!"
"Even elementary school students won't make that kind of argument. lol."
"lol... I seriously want to know who is in charge of hiring people in his agency..."
"You need to list the source properly. Like, what is this Kakaotalk forensic expert?"
"There is such a thing as a KakaoTalk forensic expert?"
"I am curious too. How did they arrive at this conclusion? Do they compare the way you speak? I mean, I sound very different on the Kakao messages I send to my friends and my co-workers at work. Does that mean my chats are written by different people?"
"If they analyze the convo in my family chat and the chat to my boyfriend, I'd be seen as different people too."
"I've seen people do forensic analysis on handwritings but never on Kakaotalk chats."
"Who is this Kakaotalk forensic expert?"
"I sound different at the beginning of my relationship with my boyfriend than what I sound like three years later, now."
"This is so comical."
