Chang Je Won, former lawmaker of the People Power Party and father of rapper Noel, has been found dead, prompting the cancellation of a scheduled press conference by the legal team representing a former secretary who had accused him of sexual assault.

On April 1, attorney Kim Jae Ryeon from law firm Onsesang, who represents the alleged victim, announced on social media, “This morning's press conference has been canceled. We apologize.”

The cancellation comes in the wake of Chang’s death, which occurred the night before. According to authorities, Chang was found dead at approximately 11:40 p.m. on March 31 in an  officetel (dual-purpose buildings used for commercial and residential purposes) located in Gangdong District, Seoul. A suicide note, believed to have been written by Chang, was discovered at the scene. Police have stated that there are currently no indications of foul play.

Kim Jae Ryeon and fellow attorney Noh Ji Seon had previously stated that they had submitted photo and video evidence related to the sexual assault case to the investigative authorities and planned to hold a press conference on the morning of April 1.

The accuser, referred to as 'A,' filed a complaint against Chang on January 17. Chang who was serving as vice president of a university in Busan at the time of the alleged incident in November 2015, was accused of sexually assaulting A, who was working as his secretary. Chang had consistently denied the allegations.

Chang’s death occurred just one day before the planned press conference. His suicide note reportedly included messages such as “I’m sorry to my family” and “I love you.”
