Even before its official release, the upcoming drama 'Way Back Love' has been generating much buzz.

'Way Back Love' is a youth fantasy romance about Hee Wan (played by Kim Min Ha), who has spent her youth isolated from the world. One day, her first love, Ram Woo (played by Gong Myung), reappears before her—not as the boy she once knew, but as a grim reaper. Based on the novel of the same name, the drama weaves a touching story that intertwines the excitement of the past with the stark reality of the present, spanning a radiant week of emotions.

The highlight video, released on April 1, has already racked up high viewership within just an hour.

The clip opens with Hee Wan dropping a piece of bread she was holding. Ram Woo then asks her, “Did I do something wrong?” in response to Hee Wan calling him by a different name. She replies, “Didn’t anything change for you after we swapped names?” This moment teases the fateful connection between the two, which started as a playful exchange. As Ram Woo, who once disappeared, reappears before Hee Wan, the time that had seemingly frozen for her begins to move again. The drama is expected to heighten immersion by shifting between their innocent past and their changed present.

Even before its official release, 'Way Back Love' was invited to the ‘On Screen’ section at the Busan International Film Festival last year, further fueling anticipation. The series delicately captures the evolving emotions of its characters over time, blending the excitement and bittersweet nostalgia of first love into a heartfelt coming-of-age story.

A press conference for the drama was held on the morning of April 1 at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul, attended by cast members Kim Min Ha, Gong Myung, Jung Gun Joo, and Oh Woo Ri.

Kim Min Ha expressed her gratitude for being part of the project, saying, “I was thankful that a story I wanted to express came to me through such a great script. I wanted to portray it naturally with a sense of responsibility.”

When asked about a title she would like to gain from the drama, she playfully responded, “Rather than the ‘icon of first love,’ I want to be known as the ‘icon of one-sided love.’ I don’t think anyone has claimed that title yet."

Gong Myung also shared his thoughts on joining the drama, saying, “When I first read the script, its youthful yet heartrending and poetic atmosphere softened my heart.

Regarding his role as a grim reaper, he added, “I referenced many senior actors who have played similar characters. I also had many discussions with the director about how to portray Ram Woo visually through costume and hairstyle. Since this drama presents a different take on the grim reaper than what audiences are used to, I focused on expressing the boundary between Ram Woo as a person and as a reaper.”

'Way Back Love' consists of six episodes and will premiere on April 3, with two episodes released each week.
