A man who unintentionally killed his wife when he mercilessly beat her because he thought she was having an affair was sentenced to ten years in prison.
The Seoul High Court revealed Monday that they sentenced a 51-year-old man, identified by his surname Kim, to ten years in prison for various charges including accidental manslaughter.
Last August, Kim had gotten into an argument with his wife over his suspicion that she was having an extramarital affair at the office of his landscaping business. In the middle of their argument, Kim struck his wife on her face and her abdomen a total of three times. Kim's wife fell from the force of Kim's blows and she died after suffering a hemorrhage.
Kim tried to hide the death of his wife by burying her body in the backyard of his office and planting a tree on her burial ground. However, his poorly concealed plan was soon exposed by the authorities.
The courts revealed that they considered the mental anguish suffered by Kim's wife from his abuse and threats in addition to the emotional distress of the kids in deciding Kim's criminal sentence.
