A man in his 30's received a severe penalty for murdering his own mother.
The Seoul Eastern District Court announced on September 29 that they sentenced 34-year-old Choi to 16 years in prison for the gruesome murder of his mother.
Choi, who was drinking at his home in Seoul's Seongdong District this past April 26, went into a fit of rage when his mother told him, "How long do you plan to stay unemployed? If you are going to continue living like this, then leave," and beat her to death.

Choi was found to be an alcoholic who has been mostly unemployed and sometimes working various part-time jobs ever since he graduated from high school. At court, Choi confessed, "I grew up resenting my mom who was an alcoholic but I became an alcoholic just like her. I received a lot of stress from my mom's alcoholism. I deeply regret my actions and am currently repenting," and said tearfully, "I plan to live asking for forgiveness from my father and my younger brother."
The courts ruled, "The defendant physically abused his defenseless mother for a prolonged period which led her to pass from multiple hemorrhages of her internal organs. This is a horrific crime against humanity which cannot be tolerated under any circumstances," revealing the reasoning behind their sentence.
