ZE:A appeared on a recent recording of MBC Music's 'Picnic' and revealed their initial thoughts upon hearing the group's name (literally translated to "Children of Empire") for the first time.
During the filming, senior label mate V.O.S asked, "How did you first feel when you heard the unique name that was ZE:A?" Member Kevin said, "There were a lot of possible names, but I never thought that the title of the reality program that was filmed during our training days would ultimately become the group's name. When they decided on ZE:A as our group name, I thought, 'We're ruined.'"

Hyungsik said, "There were so many possible group names that were on the same level that when they actually decided on ZE:A, I calmly accepted it all the more," and revealed the other possible group names such as Vampire, WEB, Visual V9, and more to everyone's laughter. Perhaps ZE:A ("Children of Empire") was really not the worst of the pick.
However, V.O.S said, "We had possible group names that were far worse than those," and revealed their own potential group names, making everyone laugh even more.
ZE:A members pointed out that people would get their name confused with similar sounding phrases like "Sons of Empire," "Morning of Empire," and more.
