With denim jackets, snapback caps, oversize
sweaters, letterman jackets, flannels, and even overalls back in style, it's
clear that 90's fashion is making a strong comeback (yay)! As a 90's baby
myself, I love revamping my old school looks, and making them relevant and
trendy today.
This being said, one drama that really caught my eye was 'Reply 1994.' Aside from the awesome script writing, I really enjoyed the fashion throughout the series. I thought the stylists did an amazing job capturing the essence of fashion from the 90's to 00's while making each outfit relevant to current trends as well. So, for this piece I've decided to recreate some 90's looks, with some inspiration from my favorite looks as seen in the drama!

In the 90's, I definitely rocked Yoon-Jin (Do-Hee)'s look—her look made me so nostalgic that I'm seriously debating sporting the middle hair-part again. Yoon-Jin covered the quintessential "tom boy/grunge" look that was in style in the 90s. Keyword: oversize. She often paired oversize shirts and sweatshirts with baggy pants, min-shin shorts, or overalls. Now, while it may seem like this style is outdated, I think that each statement piece she wore is very much relevant. While in the 90's all baggy everything was in fashion, I think the trend today is to equalize the baggy and the form fitting.
I personally often pair oversize shirts or sweaters, inspired by Yoon-Jin, with leggings or skinny jeans. In the below outfit, I combined an oversize sweater (men's), textured leggings, boots, and a snapback cap. I think the "chill" vibe of the oversize sweater and snapback balances out the chic look of the leggings and boots, thus allowing you to look slightly tomboyish, yet feminine at the same time :)

Although Na-Jung (Go Ara)'s looks are meant to be retro, I would say they most closely resemble my current fashion. Na-Jung's fashion really developed throughout the series, and I loved a lot of the feminine looks she donned. In my opinion, the staple to many of her outfits was her use of coats as the statement piece in her outfit. I particularly loved when she paired them with dresses/tights. Two accessories that she often wore were cross-body bags and hats. Fashion has finally come full circle to a point where I can wear my mom's purse from the 90s and receive compliments; Na-Jung's cross-body bags added a nice feminine touch to all of her outfits. And although I personally cannot rock the beret look (unfortunately I have an odd-shaped head), I've been loving this particular look on fashion blogs and Na-Jung; it gives a simple outfit a whole new dimension.
I think Na-Jung's fashion really hit the head on the nail throughout the series. I tried to recreate a similar look below. I think the key is to have one or two statement pieces within the outfit. For this particular look, I would probably even wear a black bag to really put an emphasis on the coat!

As for the men's fashion, I was a huge fan as
well. I really don't think you can ever
go wrong with the simple sweater and straight jean combination (as worn by
Trash, played by Jung Woo in the promo poster pictured above), or the
baseball cap/varsity sweater fashion often seen on Chilbong, played by Yoo Yun Suk. However, the track-suit and overall looks
were and still are a little questionable on young men to me (if you're an ahjusshi
going on a morning jog, it's totally acceptable). Although, Jeremy Scott x Adidas seem to be
bringing back both looks, so maybe I'll have to eat my words in the near
future.

In short, not only did I really enjoy the drama, but gained a ton of fashion inspiration throughout the series as well. What did you think about the drama, and who had the best style in your opinion? Comment below!
