Sophomore year of college thus far has been chewing me up and spitting me out. And to add to all the said glory, it's midterms season, which means:
It's been a serious struggle bus ride for the most part, with all those exams, lectures, and labs, but there are definitely some perks. For one thing, the guy selection - both on campus and around the Boston area - has dramatically worked wonders. Also, ordering takeout Chinese food has never been more appropriate and you can do so without your parents judging you and looking at you with those We've-raised-a-monster eyes. Oh, and on those mornings after you've pulled an all-nighter doing everything you should probably not have been doing (as in studying, guys, no funny ideas), you can walk to your classes in the same clothes you've been in the entire night and people won't think of you as any less of a person. Being nasty is just so normal here. It's awesome.
If you're anything like me, half the time you'll be walking about - in my case, around campus - with your eyes glued to your phone screen. You never know when your mom might send you an overly emoticon'ed message telling you to have a great week, or when that guy/or gal you've been eyeing might miraculously send you a message. Miracles happen, I swear. Or, more importantly, your life depends on your phone because if that alarm doesn't go off in the morning, you're screwed and a half.
So why not spice up the routine a bit?
I'm someone who gets bored really easily, so customizing is my ish, nam sayin'? So I figured, since I spend a good chunk of my life using my phone in one way or another, I'm going to make it interesting, because I can and I will. Leave me be, guys.
Something you might not have known about me is that I'm a major SHINee junkie. And out of the five of them, if I absolutely had to pick someone, I'd choose Jonghyun. From the moment they debuted with Replay way back when, I've been hooked. That too, and the time of their debut coincided with a time in my life when I was really susceptible to K-pop. I would hardcore stalk with what limited resources I had and just squeal like an idiot whenever I found something interesting about them. I mean, that's not to say I've stopped doing that, but whatever... no shame.
Anyway, our friends at Camp Mobile have released a pretty awesome app called dodol.pop and to top that off, a SHINee themed dodol.pop pack to completely customize your android mobile device and literally keep SHINee in the palm of your hands! dodol.pop (currently in beta testing) lets you not only install and customize free ringtones, but videos along with those ringtones.
And thus, I've set Jonghyun as my ringtone for obvious reasons: He has the voice of a fallen angel and the face of a glorious dinosaur that strangely works in his favor. Perhaps it's my bias, but whenever his face and voice pop up when someone calls, I get so excited.
For my alarm, I've set Onew's Alarm every Monday through Friday for 7 a.m. For those of you faithful to the K-pop sphere, you are well aware of the Onew Condition. Basically, this infamous condition is one where Onew manages to find himself in the most painfully awkward and uncomfortable situations that result in his falling over himself or making the lighthearted atmosphere of a room go eerie. It's pretty serious, but lo and behold, I think I've found a kindred spirit in him. I relate to him and his conditions in ways normal people probably can't. His voice and face are nice reminders that there are people like me out there.
That's my life in a nutshell guys. As much as I hate to admit it, my life revolves so heavily around my phone, not simply because I choose the cellular experience over, let's say, real face-to-face communication, but mainly because I depend so much on my phone to wake me up or for updates from family and friends on what's been going on. And just being able to customize my daily cellular encounters is so empowering, and dodol.pop's quirky artist ringtones and messages are such pick-me-ups throughout the day.
I'm obsessed with the app as it is, but I'd love to see how you guys customized your phones (because I'm weird and nosy like that). Share in the comments below!
