Mwahahah, I've finally arrived to take over the Uncle Fan segment!
Okay, no. I'm just going to be a guest writer for this week while Uncle Fan enjoys a vacation off in girl group paradise. A lot of you have been asking for a 'Noona Fan' type of column, and since I'm not quite the age to be a noona (although idols these days keep getting younger…), I'm still a fangirl.
So here it is, the Confessions of a Crazy Fangirl.
(Also, let me just say how excited I am to be doing this. While I've written op-eds, I've never done an article just for the fun of it! I'm so excited.)
Cool things of the Week
Block B is coming back
I'm going to be honest - I don't know how I feel about this. While I'm elated that Block B is getting another chance and that BBCs can see their boys together again, I'm still worried for what the future holds for them. Sure, a new label, a fresh new start - that sounds nice and all on the surface, but let's be realistic: I was hoping Block B would work things out, but I was also hoping they'd end up with a label that has some serious pull. The industry is already fraught with competition, and these days the only ones that seem to do well are the ones with big names behind their back (except Crayon Pop, but they're a bit of an exception). But still, I sincerely wish the best for Block B.
KARA is back
Ermagawd. I've never been a hardcore Kamilia or anything, but KARA's comeback always makes me excited because I've always loved their songs. Plus, I have a soft spot for Gyuri. I love the MV - the girls look pretty damned gorgeous in all of their outfits, but I gotta say that sadly, the song has yet to stick out to me yet. KARA hasn't failed me yet, so I'm hoping it'll grow on me once I see them perform.
Crayon Pop wins their first #1 + EXO wins their first triple crown
Crayon Pop took home their first ever trophy with "Bar Bar Bar" on 'Music Bank' this week, and I gotta say - my friend and I went to karaoke this week, we tried this dance, and we're too old for this dance or something because we were totally out of breath by the end of the song.
Also, whoever accused EXO of being failures in the beginning of the year are probably crying now, because the 12 heartthrobs took home their first triple crown this week on 'Inkigayo' - and not even with their main song, but their repackage follow-up song "Growl"! If that's not impressive, I don't know what is. Also, they're the only artists this year to sell 500,000 copies of an album. I mean, damn.
Heechul returns from the army
It's the day all ELF have been waiting for since two years ago - Super Junior's superstar is back! Heechul was all grins while showing off his award as he was discharged, and then went on an Instagram spree just in case you didn't know he's now back in business. Now to start counting down to when Leeteuk and Yesung will be discharged...
DMTN's Daniel may be going to jail
From the western point of view, Daniel's crime isn't that big... but from a Korean's point of view, his misdemeanors may have him paying jail time. Personally, I think 1 year is way too much, but I don't think he should get away with just a slap on the wrist, either. But also... Whatever happened to the Bianca chick?
The Taeyeon Hyungsik Experiment
Pic/.Gif/Video of the Week
Okay, that's not of an idol, but LOOK HOW SWEET THEY ARE. Sometimes I get sad when I watch 'Dad, Where Are You Going?' because I don't have kids. Even though Junsu and Joon are my favorites, Hoo and Jia are so, so, so adorable in this little clip, especially when Jia gets that smile on her face and tells Hoo, "I like you." She's gonna break so many hearts when she grows up.
Misunderstandings about jennywill
Since I don't have a mailbag, I decided to use this particular section to clear up some misunderstandings people have about me.
"jennywill is an SM/YG/Everything anti!"
I am NOT an SM anti. Super Junior is the only official fanclub I'm registered in, I run a SHINee forum on the side, and I even have Girls' Generation albums even though I'm not really into girl groups just because I like them. Repeat, I am NOT an SM anti.
For that matter, I'm not anti-YG, either. I think T.O.P is one of the hottest idols out there, and Daesung is one of my top idol biases, not to mention I adore Lee Hi. I mean, okay, I admit – sometimes I just don't understand G-Dragon's or CL's fashion, but I don't hate them by any means.
"jennywill is obviously biased toward B.A.P/ZE:A/etc."
Yes, I'm not afraid to admit – the latest group I've gotten into is ZE:A, I love B.A.P, I worship UEE, my biggest groups are MBLAQ and Super Junior and Shinhwa, and my #1 is K.Will (unknown fact: the 'will' in my author name is actually for K.Will). If you tell me I have a bias for these people, I can't deny that. But for some reason, a lot of people think I hate them. I don't. I love them.
I am an avid collector of CDs for groups I stan. I have the full music collection of Shinhwa, Super Junior, SHINee, INFINITE, B1A4, K.Will, Block B, MBLAQ, and B.A.P, and am in the process of buying ZE:A's discography. I literally spent thousands on these groups. I do not hate anyone on this list. If you don't believe me, check out my Tumblr here. I took pics of most of my albums.
A Few Non-K-Pop related things
A little different spin to Uncle Fan's. Instead of what's happening this week, I decided to tell you guys non-K-Pop things I'm obsessed with. Warning: People say I'm a cinophile/movie geek. I don't think so, but.. yeah.
Pacific Rim
PacRim is my newest obsession and I'm going literally insane with Rob Kazinsky (aka the Australian Chuck Hansen) in the movie! Sigh, he's a jerk in the movie and is STILL attractive.
Avengers
Ugh, Jeremy Renner/Hawkeye. I realize he's the least popular Avenger, but seriously, I love this guy, and this franchise is like my baby. Because, I mean, come on. Throw 5 hot guys and 1 Scarlett Johannson in a mix, you can't go wrong. Especially if one of those guys is Chris Hemsworth!
The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings
I admit it, I'm a Lord Of The Rings geek. I first got into this fandom through Orlando Bloom, read the books, and eventually fell in love. And Martin Freeman as Bilbo? I mean, come on. He may be 41... but he's adorable. Also he plays John Watson in BBC's Sherlock and if you haven't seen BBC's Sherlock yet please do, you won't regret it.
Inception
I'm aware this movie came out 3 years ago, but I own the Blu-Ray and I seriously watch it once every few months. All I can say is ohmygod Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I mean, Tom Hardy is amazing, too, but Joe! He plays such a perfect Arthur and looks so delicious in all his scenes. Also Christopher Nolan happens to be a genius, and this movie is never boring to me. I still randomly catch myself humming Non, Je ne regrette nien.
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Okay, risking sounding like a huge nerd, (which I'm not!), I got this game when it came out and have been replaying over and over and over and over again. Sigh. I think I need a life.
Top 5 Favorite Current Idols
- Kwanghee/Kevin/Hyungsik/Junyoung – Okay, I can't pick one, but, yeah, ZE:A is my #1 thing right now.
- UEE – I swear, if it weren't my astronomical love for UEE, I'd stop watching Barefoot Friends on the spot.
- K.Will - Only down here because he hasn't put out a new song in a while. Put out a song, and his voice shoots himself to #1. (Wait, he's not really an idol.. whatever.)
- Shinhwa - The only thing that can get me to watch 'Running Man' (yes, against popular opinion, I find this show incredibly boring.. I'd much rather watch 'Real Men' or 'Dad, Where Are You Going?') is Shinhwa, and my first-ever K-pop bias became the first ever guests on the show to completely wipe out the 'Running Man' crew in all the games.
- Bang Yong Guk - I didn't quite like "BADMAN", so B.A.P kind of dropped in my ranking lately, but our tigger-loving leader re-opened his Instagram and I just can't resist.
Song of the Week
This is my attempt to get "Ghost of the Wind" more views. So there.
