Actor Jang Hyuk (35) has been selected as the main character for a new KBS2 drama titled 'Gaksital'. This is the first KBS project Jang Hyuk has taken on since his role in KBS2's 'Slave Hunter', and filming for the series will begin early next year once SBS' 'Deep-rooted Tree' comes to an end. He will be playing the role of Lee Kangto, and the drama is scheduled to air during the first half of 2012. But those within broadcast circles feel that his roles in 'Slave Hunter', 'Deep-Rooted Tree', and 'Gaksital' are all too similar and perhaps it was a mistake for casting him in this upcoming drama. In 'Slave Hunter' he played the role of Lee Daegil, a low-class slave who lived in the Choseon era, and in 'Deep-Rooted Tree', he plays the role of Kang Chae Yoon, the son of a slave that is burning with desire to vengefully take the life of King Sejong. For 'Gaksital', he will be playing the role of a seemingly uneducated, low-class Lee Kangto who fights to win independence from Japan and punishes the Japanese for their wrong doings. Those in the industry admit that 'Slave Hunter' was a big success, thanks to Jang Hyuk who has the image of a youthful, modern celebrity but transformed into a Choseon era slave and made it believable. But the role he will be playing in his newest scheduled drama isn't all that much different. They feel that the viewers will be bored of the similar story & role, and will crave something fresh and different. The original 'Gaksital' was a controversial comic released back in 1974 by artist Hur Young Man. The new drama-edition was written by Yoo Hyunmi of MBC's 'My Joyful Home', and produced by Yoon Sungsik of KBS2's 'A Man's Story'. Source & Image : Sports Seoul via Naver
