Review: Sori Single Album "Lip"

Posted by TheProdigy1 pt Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Yes indeed! This past week, smoking hot new comer Sori has released her single album entitled Lip. Sori made her break into the entertainment industry by playing the main character in the musical "The Ballerina Who Loved A B-Boy". Sori has been working with her company, Star Empire (company of Jewelry and V.O.S), for three years prior to her debut. Netizens are talking this girl up saying things like "Among Lee Hyori and Seo In Young a new sexy icon has made an established appearance" and "I sure would like to show her "Lips" my magic stick". Okay, you caught me, the second comment was just me but that's not what is important. What is important, is whether her music is as good as she is hot...nah, that doesn't really matter either. Here is my full review of the album: Sori "Lip" Genre: Dance/Pop Release Date: 2009-02-19 Track 1: 입술이 정말 (Real Lips)

"The single Real Lips was made possible by assembling the best in the business. Famous composer Bang Shi Hyuk who had wrote songs in the past for Rain, G.O.D., Baek Ji Young, etc created the song for Sori and is considered to be along the same line as Baek Ji Young's Give Your Lips song." -coolsmurf
Bang Shi Hyuk calls this song "Lip Series Part 2" but the song is much more seductive and catchy than it's Baek Ji Young version. The dance and performance make the song all the better. I really like the way they distorted and played with her voice on the bridge. This song is by far the best song on the album. The dance has elements of ballet and modern dance. Check out the music video and performance below: Music Video Performance -Thanks to jaeurazn for the videos Track 2: 새끼손가락 (SORI Ver.) (Pinky) feat. Lee Jun Ki Pinky is a ballad song that has short rapping bits by Lee Jun Ki. I listened to Lee Jun Ki's debut mini album and it actually wasn't half bad, but I guess he wanted to try something different and added rap to this song. However, the only thing that Lee Jun Ki adds to this song is his less than average voice and much more importantly, his name in the featuring. Here you can hear Sori's true undistorted voice. Listening to her voice was annoying at first, but I got used to it as the song progressed. Overall, I was not impressed with her singing ability. Track 3: How (어떻게) This song was produced by E-Tribe, the producers of the ever popular song "Gee". "How" is another dance song, but its lyrics are much more innocent than the seductive "Real Lips". The song has a really cute part where she says "Sa Rang Hae (I love you)". Track 4: 새끼손가락(이준기 Ver.) (Lee Jun Ki Version) The only explanation I can come up with to why this song is even on the album is as a marketing tool to get Lee Jun Ki's fans to buy the album. This song is exactly the same as the Sori version except Sori's voice is only heard in the chorus and bridge while Jun Ki raps all of the verses. Overall I give this album a 5 3 out of 5. (My magic stick almost got the better of my judgment) This girl might be talented but she definitely hasn't showed it with this single; and when I say talented I mean talented as a singer. Sure, she's got the looks and she can dance, but can she sing? We can only hope that later she actually does a live performance so we can hear her voice rather than a recording. One thing I've noticed about the Kpop industry is that fans don't like singers that can't, or rather, don't sing live. In order for her to become great she should follow Hyori's example and give her fans live singing while dancing. Check out the surprisingly good MR removed video of Hyori's live performance of "U Go Girl".
