With the arrival of warmer months, many are embarking on vacations. If you're planning a trip to Korea this season, consider these six essential travel hacks to enhance your experience:
1. Avoid the rush hour:
To escape the cramped and chaotic rush hours, particularly on subways, avoid traveling during peak commute times on weekdays from 8AM to 9AM and 6PM to 7PM.
2. Be aware of the air quality:
Pollution often degrades Korea's air quality, intensifying with the presence of microdust. Always be prepared with a mask.
3. Reservations may be required:
Some stores in Korea, especially in large department malls like The Hyundai Seoul, might require reservations just like restaurants. Even some taxis might be pre-reserved.
4. Need to freshen up before and after your flight:
Visit a jjimjilbang in the basement levels of airports or city centers to shower and relax before or after flights.
5. Naver Map is the way to go:
For accurate navigation in Korea, rely on Naver Map instead of other apps as Google Maps doesn't really work well in Korea. Make sure to download it before your trip.
6. Use KakaoTaxi
Seoul has a great public transit network so you might not need to use it but if you're outside of the main city area, you may need a taxi. As Uber/Lyft don't really work in Korea, the best ride sharing app to use in Korea is KakaoTaxi.
