The rising band QWER recently revealed that they had to struggle with their agency to change their name from something else.
Four months ago, QWER members shared a video where they shared the story behind the band formation. The host, Go Young Bae, from the band Soran, brought up the topic of the group's name by saying, "I named our band Soran. QWER was actually wholly created by boss Egg Kim (he did everything he wanted) and then he gathered the members. I wonder what do you think about the band name?"
The members then revealed they were originally supposed to be KIMOCHI THE ROCK and explained, "At first, the name wasn't QWER. It was KIMOCHI THE ROCK." Member Magenta elaborated, "It was parodying BOCCHI THE ROCK!, meaning that we will play pleasant rock and roll." The host seemed baffled and asked, "Seriously?" The members replied, "Yes, it was really serious."
They also shared, "It was written as 'KIMOCHI THE ROCK' on every document and stuff he brought." Magenta added, "I had to convince him for 1 hour that QWER sounds so much better."
Korean netizens commented, "I think if they were KIMOCHI THE ROCK, I wouldn't have listened to them, lol," "lol, that's funny," "I think that name goes well with the group's concept," "They should've kept KIMOCHI THE ROCK, lol," "Maybe just KIMOCHI is good," "That's funny," and "Their songs are good though."
